Grandmaster Sahaj Grover from India ( born in 1995) headlines the player list at the Steinitz 40th anniversary event in Cape Town this Easter Weekend. He is originally from Delhi boasting a rating of 2493 and was awarded the grandmaster title in 2012 at the age of 17. He was an International master at 15 already and has won numerous international events.
He is no stranger to South Africa having played the Commonwealth and SA Open in 2011 where he scored 8.5 / 11 losing only one game and winning seven. In 2005 he won the World Under ten championships in France thus telling the world about his talents. In 2014 he won the Durban Open in September 2014.
The Steinitz open celebrates the achievements of the chess club who has won the most national club titles Wp League titles. The event is taking place in Proteaville, Bellville South and commences with a blitz event on Thursday night followed by two rounds on Friday morning.
