It was in June 1976 just after Sharpeville that some chess players met at the home of Thomas Fleurs in Manenberg and mooted the idea of forming a club that would unite players across the divide. The word Manyanani in one of the African languages means “People Unite”.

It is with great pleasure that I could be witness to Chess taking centre stage the recent Western Cape Sport Awards ON Saturday 16 September 2017. The venue was glittering affair and was held at the Century City Conference centre with the Minister of Sport Ms Anroux Marais being the Keynote speaker.
I attended the 3rd TCS international conference and 6th FASC congress in Arusha, Tanzania from the 11-15 September 2017. The town of Arusha is situated in North Tanzania and is about 200 km away from the largest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro which boasts an impressive height of about 5800 m.
The first inter-provincial Team Championships took place in Bloemfontein from 29 August 2017 to 03 September 2017. The venue was the Bains Lodge. The event was hosted by Chess Free State and together with Chess South Africa they ensured a classy and well-run event.
