Grandmaster Kenny Solomon addressed pupils at various schools in Mitchell’s plain in the week that he was in South Africa. He delivered speeches at assembly time and was well received by all the players. Grandmaster Kenny spoke about his youth growing up in Mitchell’s Plain and what it takes to be a top chess player.
On Wednesday 25 February 2015 he addressed scholars at Tafelsig High School Tafelsig High School is in an impoverished community in Mitchell’s Plain. Under the guidance of the principal Ms R. O’ Shea the school has grown in strength. They have a marching band which has won accolades and is a Centre for after school activities for the department of the Cultural affairs and sport.
In partnership with Mitchell’s Plain they have taken chess to new heights. It was thus fitting that Grandmaster spoke to the scholars there.
