Chess & Women’s month – reflections by Dr Advocate Lyndon Bouah

On the 9th of August 1956, 20 000 women marched to the Union Building in Pretoria to protest the pass laws that were enacted at that time. The march became symbolic of the strength of women and since the advent of democracy in South Africa, 9 August has become known as women’s day and the month of August has been declared women’s month.
